Israel has outstanding archaeological,religious and cultural attractions,and has some of the most spectacular scenery,the Gulf of Eilat has magnificent coral reefs where you can scuba dive.

 

The country is small and is home to a diverse population from many ethnic,religious,cultural and social backgrounds.Hebrew and Arabic are Israel’s official languages,but many other languages can be heard. English is widely spoken and street signs can be seen in English.

 

Israel has over 300 hotels, offering accommodation to suit all tastes,ranging from small to luxurious. There are numorous Health Resorts around the country offering excellent therapeutic treatment for various ailments and conditions.

 

Climate
Israel enjoys long, warm, dry summers (April-October) and generally mild winters (November-March), with drier,cooler weather in hilly regions,such as Jerusalem.Rainfall is relatively heavy in the north and center of the country and almost negligible amounts in the southern areas.Regional conditions vary considerably,with humid summers and mild winters on the coast,dry summers and moderately cold winters in the hill regions.

 

Cuisine

The food is diverse and of a high standard.There are many restaurants offering every type of food possible. Most restaurants and food stalls are open from morning until late evening.The Israeli Breakfast is a must,with a selection of different cheeses,salad,eggs and bread.

 

Shopping 

There are numerous shopping mall’s in almost every city in Israel as well as colourful markets and bazaars which offer imported and locally made items.Most stores are open from Sunday to Thursday from around 9am to 7pm.Stores close midday on Friday and open again on Sunday morning.

 

Travelling

Getting around is easy with various options on offer.Car rental is one,distances are short in Israel so its an easy way to travel.Public transport is very good and reasonable,there is also a train service to most cities. There is no Public Transport from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.However on most inner city routes a Sherut (minibus) service operates during this period,they follow major bus routes and can be hailed from anywhere along the road,and of course taxi’s run day and night.

 

Time

Israel’s standard time is 2 hours ahead of GMT,1 hour ahead of mid-European time,and 7 hours ahead of USA Eastern Standard Time.

 

Banking and Currency

Banks are open every morning from 8:30 am -12:30 pm,most banks offer afternoon banking hours from 4 pm - 6 pm two days a week (varying according to the bank). All banks are closed on Saturdays and Jewish Holidays,but most have automatic tellers accepting most major international credit cards.

 

The unit of currency is the New Israeli Shekel (NIS) usually referred to as "shekels" and come in a variety of denominations.Each shekel consists of 100 Agoroth
